The promise

Built to make money make sense.

Most budgeting apps just show you charts. Kiwis Can connects your accounts, applies proven methods to your real spending, and explains the reasoning, so the habits actually stick.

What Kiwis Can does
Connects all your accounts through Akahu, New Zealand's licensed open-banking provider.
Applies proven financial principles to your real spending, and explains why each one works.
One clear number, Safe to Spend, so you always know where you stand. Charts and deeper stats are coming for experienced users.
Your transactions and balances are stored only on your phone. We don't keep a copy.
Looks after the rough moments in the background. A heads-up when you go over, never a warning.
From download to seeing your spending

Three minutes. Three steps. Skip whatever you want.

No twenty-question quiz. No "how confident are you with money" wizard. Just three small screens, with a Skip button on every one.

01
Face ID, then in.
Same biometric you already use. No new password to forget.
02
Bank, through Akahu.
NZ-licensed open banking. Or skip and add transactions manually. Both paths are equal here.
03
Pick a budget shape.
The default is 50/30/20: half your income to needs, 30% to wants, 20% to savings. We pre-fill it from your income, and everything stays editable.

Use your face, not a PIN.
Kiwis Can unlocks with the same Face ID you already use. We don't ask you to set up another password.
Your phone handles the auth. We never see your face or your passcode.

Most apps show you what you spent and stop there. Kiwis Can explains the why, using principles that have held up for decades: pay yourself first, cover your needs, let the light weeks roll into savings.

Each idea lands on your real numbers, not a generic article you will never read. You don't sit down to study money. You pick it up, one honest decision at a time.

One question, not twelve envelopes
Need it or want it. That single call does the work a strict budget never finishes.
The why comes with it
Every number arrives with the reason it moved, so the lesson sticks.
Insights that teach

Patterns from your real spending, explained.

At most two cards a day. Each one reads your actual spending, explains what changed and why, and names the money principle behind it, so a number becomes something you can act on.

Every insight ties back to a real pattern in your spending, never a generic tip.

The two shapes a card takes
A win worth noticing
🌿
Milestone
Your buffer just passed $500.
Three light weeks rolled into savings instead of getting spent. The principle at work: a buffer is the first thing that turns money stress down, because it buys you time when something breaks.
See how it grew
A heads-up worth acting on
📺
Heads up
That $14.99 charge? It's a subscription.
Kiwis Can flags a recurring charge once, when it first spots the pattern, never on every renewal. Forgotten ones quietly add up to a tank of petrol a month, so here's this one to keep or cancel. Either way, it stays quiet after.

Built on patterns, not tips.

Each card watches one real thing: this week against the same window last week, a pot nearing its edge, a recurring charge that changed. One observation per pattern, once. If nothing is worth saying, it says nothing.

When a week gets a bit much

Take a breather. Anytime you need one.

Lockdown is one swipe. It hides your spending money for 24 hours, 48 hours, or a week, your call. Rent, power, and groceries stay visible and payable the whole time.

The quiet is the point. A number you can see begs to be spent; with it out of sight, the impulse loses its fuel and the week gets room to reset. Want out early? Type a short phrase, wait 15 minutes, and you're free. A pause, not a punishment.

Safe by design

Your money is yours. Your data, too.

The promise

By default, your financial data stays on your phone.

Your transactions, budgets, and lockdown sessions live encrypted on your device. Your bank connection sits behind your phone's own secure storage. We can't read your data, because we never store it.

No analytics. No third-party trackers. No "help us improve" toggle buried in Settings. We don't store your financial data, so there's nothing for us to mine or leak.

Server-free by default.
No backup in the cloud, no analytics, no third parties. Just your phone.
Delete the app, delete your data.
For local-only users, uninstall is GDPR-equivalent erase. There's no server copy to come back from.
Tokens in your phone's keychain.
Bank connections are protected by your device passcode and Face ID. Locked when you are.
(Coming later) Opt-in encrypted backup.
For people who want recovery. Key derived from your passphrase. We never see the plaintext.
(Coming later) Opt-in iCloud sync.
Through your iCloud account, between your own devices. Not through ours.
What you'll see at launch

Four screens, total.

Home, Pots, Journal, Settings. That's the whole app. No "explore" tab full of credit cards. No "trending merchants near you." Just what you need.
